Getting older isn’t about staying at home and keeping warm. It’s long been noticed that those who strive to stay active live longer than those who decide to sit at home and watch the world go by.

The first thing to consider is keeping your body as fit as possible. It doesn’t have to be too strenuous, it can be done using an elliptical cross trainer or doing beginner yoga exercises. Even just sitting in your chair and shaking and stretching your arms and legs will get the blood flowing and your joints moving. Just don’t over do things.

But for some of us our decreased mobility will become a real problem. This still doesn’t mean having to sit sedately in a chair all day long. First you’ll need to get out of that chair so you may like to consider a riser recliner chair that will get you on your feet at the touch of a button. Once you’re standing you can move about as much as you can knowing that you can get back into your chair just as easily.

If your knee and hip joints make it impossible for you to go out for a walk anymore then investing in a mobility scooter will greatly enhance your life. If you like going to visit further a field then consider looking at folding mobility scooters which you can pop in a car. Simply unfold and use it when you get there.

It’s not only important to keep moving to keep your body in good condition. Meeting people, going to new places as well as old haunts will help you avoid depression, a common problem amongst the older population. Just getting out once in awhile even if it’s only to end up sitting on a bench watching the world go by will do wonders for how you feel. It’s very much a case of making the best of your life.
