The next time you drop a line in the water off the side of a boat equipped with the latest sonar devices, dig into the cooler beside your feet for a favourite beverage and kick your feet up to enjoy a relaxing day of fishing. Fishing is one of the oldest activities known to man. Archaeologists have found ancient dumps of shell and bone, cave paintings depicting fishing and even hooks made from bone. There is even a theory that states we might be closer to the fish we try and catch than we think. The squatic Ape Hypothesis?contends that human beings spent a time living by and catching their food from the shallows of lakes and oceans. The controversial theory contends years of living that helped us to look different from the apes and chimpanzees thought by some to be our ancestors because of this time evolving by water.

The ancient river Nile was an angler’s paradise. The Egyptians relied on fresh and dried fish as a staple in their diets, and the various methods they used have been well represented in many ancient representations from their lives. Although they had some tools like nets, baskets and even hooks and lines, the fish caught were often clubbed to death. Perch, catfish and eels were among the most important catches in the Egyptian times.

Perhaps the most recognizable tool for fishing is the hook. No one knows for certain, but it's quite probable prehistoric man was using some form of a hook over 40,000 years ago. Experts have had some problems pinning down exact dates since they know most of the materials used back then were most likely wood and not very durable. British Isle anglers catch fish with hooks made from the hawthorn bush, right up to the present day. Although Stone Age man had the tools necessary for making bone hooks, it is hard for scientists to get exact dates since bone does not define its age well. The oldest known hooks have turned up in Czechoslovakia, but others have turned up in Egypt and Palestine. The Palestinian hooks are believed to be over 9,000 years old, proving that fishing has been around for a very long time indeed.

Article 109 weeds and crappie How Do they relate?

Crappie are not built for speed or power and they like to stay close to shallow water for there is plenty of structure and where most of their crappie food is located. The food chain will be the thickest where plankton is the thickest, which normally is located in large flats and bays on the wind ward side. the crappie is one of the most sought after game fish in America and they have been named odd names such as calico bass, speckled bass, speckled perch, white perch, pole crappie, strawberry bass and papermouth. You can use crappie baits like crappie jigs tipped with soft plastic grubs and wax worms. Crappie live baits like crappie minnows, shiners, small gizzard shad, maggots, panfish leeches, and crayfish will work well too.

The calico bass will relate to weeds in different ways. When you are crappie fishing in lakes and reservoirs that have large areas of weedy vegetation, look for suspended crappies any where from 5 to 15ft of the bottom in 25 to 30 feet of water. The The strawberry bass will suspend off a drop off lip in the bottom contour during the middle of the day and when there is direct sunlight they will suspend there too.The white perch will also suspend at drop off points during cold front conditions when the fish are in a negative feeding pattern. To entice the speckled bass which are in a neutral or negative feeding mood you can use popular crappie fishing jigs such as the Flu Flu, Chubby Jig, Puddle Jumper, Zetabait Wobbly Eye Jig, Custom Jigs & Spin Shrimpo, Blue Fox Foxee Jig, and the Lindy – Little Joe Timber Jig tipped with crappie live baits such as wax worms, maggots, crappie minnows, shiners, redworms, live nymphs, or crayfish. To ad some flash for even more attraction add a safety pin spinner to your crappie jig, or switch up your crappie bait to one to a popular crappie spinner bait such as a Blakemore Road Runner, Tad’s Cricket Spin,Terminator Tiny T, and the Bomber Mini – Whacker. To catch crappie you may want to verticle jig your crappie spinner baits to a vertical or horizontal depth that is eye level to thespeckled perch.

The calico bass will many times suspend at the bottom edge of beds at the base when they are in a active feeding mood. Under favorable weather conditions there will be entire schools of calico bass that will locate here as long as the crappie food lasts. During heavy feeding periods a regular crappie jig with a plastic grub will catch crappie. This concentration of pole crappie will normally occur in the late afternoon.

Schools of speckled bass that were suspended along the base of weed edge lines will many times move horizontally along the weed line spending at a depth of 5 to 8 feet below the surface. This movement typically happens in the evening near sunset. Under ideal weather conditions you can sometimes see calico bass coming to the surface and feeding as far as 100 feet away from the edge of the weed line. Right before night fall is a great time to catch crappie with a flyrod and a floating crappie jig. This one of the few times that calico bass like to feed on the surface.

Fishing bait boats have been around in the angling scene for a number of years now. Their use is now becoming quite widespread, even though many anglers see them just a a gimmick. They not only enable you to place baits accurately at extreme range, but are often of great help when fishing at close range but near to awkward water features, that might otherwise be impossible to fish.

Make sure you check the club and water rules to conform that bait boats are allowed on the fishery you are fishing. Some owners and clubs do not permit the use of baitboats. You also need to be courteous to other anglers, and also be aware of the possible impact on the local wildlife. The technology of your baitboat may not always be acceptable to other anglers.

What does the angling technics bait boat have to offer?
In a swim that can easily be fished conventionally with a method rig or swimfeeder, the baitboat enables us to drop both the groundbait and the hookbait at exactly the same spot time after time. You will not leave unwanted piles of swimfeeder bait in areas away from your target that will often happen when casting swimfeeders. How many times do you not quite get the cast right and refill the feeder to try again? Every time you do that, you leave bait away from your target and hence attract feeding fish away from where you want them.

If you are not having to cast your groundbait. then you may be able use much lighter tackle. You may not need such heavy terminal tackle in order to achieve casting distance, And you will be able to lighten up your entire rig. You are able to use extremely light tackle at extreme ranges, that would otherwise not be posible. That can give you a great advantage.
If your baitboat is well designed, you will also create less distubance in the swim.

There has been much discussion over the rights and wrongs of bait boats. The angling technics microcat bait boat seems to have a large following of enthusiastic anglers. Many anglers still hold the view that baitboats should not be used on any waters, and see them as reducing the skill of the sport. There will always be anglers who will misuse baitboats who will place baits in crazy positions from which there is no chance of retieving a hooked fish without potential damage (and trauma) to the fish. I have seen anglers adopting a brute force technique, where in order to land a fish they have to apply maximum pressure on the fish to get wuickly clear of snags. This is hardly the sort of finesse that good skilled anglers should be using as a technique. Our first aim should always be to return fish to the water in good condition and without trauma.

I believe that the debate will continue for a while until the angling community realises that like all new innovations, bait boats are probably here to stay. The task is for us all to agree on what is and is not acceptable use of the technology. When bait boats are used in a sensible manner, they are a useful asset to the sport.

In terms of angling areas go, Mackay is in a pretty great place. Anyone that has carried out the drive out of Brisbane to Cairns will certainly know that you can find very few settlements between Bundaberg and Mackay as well as between The East Coast of Australia and Townsville. The actual coastal isolation of the region implies that there are simply 1000’s of square kilometres of fairly unfished oceans for you personally to experience.

The East Coast of Australia can also be 1 from the furthest of the Queensland ports from the The Great Barrier Reef so the sheer distances that individuals have to travel keeps plenty of the smaller craft in close proximity passing on the awesome ocean going angling opportunities in the direction of the larger craft and charter captains on all however the calmest of nights.

You can find lots of various types of charters concentrating on many various species in Mackay. From chasing the elusive Red Emperor in the deep water to casting surface lures for Large GT. By angling the edge of the reef for fish just like coral trout to diving and spearfishing boat charters - The East Coast of Australia fishing charters can demonstrate you what angling is really supposed to be about.

Deep Sea Fishing Is A Really Popular Activity Around Australia

Offshore fishing or bottom bouncing as it’s generally known is probably the most well-liked kind of fishing in Mackay. This is mainly simply because the end result is usually a good feed of very higher high quality reef fish. Species such as big coral trout, grassy sweetlip, nannygai, cod and red emperor are typical fish catches aboard deep water fishing charters out of The East Coast of Australia.

This type of fishing is fairly specialised and requires the skilled use of some very costly fishtracking and navigational gear. Effective fishseekers integrated with GPS chart plotters make this type of angling significantly more successful so it’s often much better to hire the providers of the charter boat.

It seems that a growing number of people of all ages and persuasions are beginning to realize that the world of bass fishing holds far more attractions than you would probably believe. Bass pro trophy fishing doesn't exactly get the type of attention and coverage that other sports get. Rarely will you ever see any headline news about anything fishing related, whether it be television or any other type of media. It takes more than looking at bass fishing infomercials to comprehend why bass fishing is now the number one freshwater sport today in America.

Substantial Growth

It is in fact quite surprising to learn that bass fishing has grown by a whopping seventy percent more than any other form of fishing. Furthermore, the last quarter of a century has also seen the bass fishing industry multiply from being just a million dollar industry into one that is now believed to be an approximately five billion dollar industry. Each year, the business still continues to grow.

All this makes one wonder what is there to bass fishing that is so exciting and making this industry grow so fast. The amount of media coverage is increasing, as pro bass fishing tour events are sometimes televised. Florida is one of the best places for bass fishing. Because of the many attractions Florida has to offer, this makes an ideal vacation spot for families. The existance of associations like the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society (BASS) have contributed to the popularity as well.

Not a lot of equipment or experience in the sport is necessary in order to have fun. Also, it doesn't need a certain amount of people to participate in, like team sports for instance. One can go out of his or her own if desired. Also, the cost of the equipment is not too expensive, opening the door for just about anyone regardless of income level to get involved.

Bass fishing also allows families to get the opportunity to spend more time with one another. You can create special memories with your loved ones by sharing these joyful times together. This will certainly bring your family closer.

One of the new slogans that is making the rounds is â

ARTICLE 113

Crappies and the mayfly connection a must read!

In lakes that have populations of crappie and where there is a annual mayfly hatch a connection between the mayfly and the crappie is made every year. Crappie will gorge themselves full with mayfly nymphs in the spring and throughout the early summer whenever there is a fresh hatch of mayfly nymphs If you learn the signs of a hatch you can get in on some amazing mayfly nymph crappie fishing. the crappie or called other names such as calico bass, speckled bass, speckled perch, white perch, pole crappie, strawberry bass, and papermouth.

The mayfly’s don’t all hatch at once so you will be able get into the mayfly connection at different times throughout the year. There are several different kinds of mayflies and they will hatch at different times, and this sequence may go on for 2 our 3 months.

At the height of the mayfly hatch, speckled bass will swim through massive clouds of aquatic mayfly nymphs with their mouths wide open, gorging on aquatic nymphs as they go until they are ful! You do not need any fishing electronics to take advantage of a mayfly hatch. You just need to pay attention and have the right crappie fishing tackle, equipment and crappie baits available. If you happen to be on the lake during one of these mayfly hatches you will be in for some spectacular crappie fishing.

If you are out on your boat and all of a sudden there is a mayfly sitting on your boat during the day or night this is a direct sign that there is a mayfly hatch going on somewhere near your location, and it is time to switch gears and get your crappie fly fishing gear ready. Amazingly mayfly’s in their adult form live only a few days after the hatch, just long enough to reproduce and then they die. The mayfly nymphs on the other hand may have life spans of up to 7 years. Basically you are just going to target the aquatic nymphs and that is what your crappie bait selection will be targeting.

To locate mayfly hatching points there are a few obvious things that you can look for that indicate a hatch is in progress. Look for the paper mouth coming up to the surface and leaving bubbles bubbles in the surface film. Is a key sign that the calico bass are feed ing on mayfly nymphs. Look for hatches going on in shallow bays that have soft muckly bottoms like sand silt or mud. When you are getting your fly rod ready to catch crappie any dry fly selection that looks similar to a mayfly nymph will work to catch crappie. But matching the size and the color of the mayfly nymphs that are hatching gives you even a better advantage. If you do not have a fly rod you can fly rod you can use spinning rod with a casting bubble. With a dry fly that looks like a mayfly nymph for your crappie bait selection. Other crappie bait selections that may work during a mayfly hatch to catch crappie are very small marabou jigs, fished under a slip bobber or casting bubble Gently pop the slip bobber or casting bubble to imitate rising mayfly nymphs. If you are more of a live bait crappie fisherman then check out your local bait store. Some bait shops will even sell live mayfly nymphs crappie bait and of course live mayfly nymphs make a great crappie bait selection

Click Here To See A Secret Weapon For Crappie Fishing My Friend Discovered In 2004

Flatland reservoirs water impoundments are a Mecca for catching crappie and just about any crappie baits will work if you know where to look. Crappies are often mentioned by local fisherman with names like calico bass, speckled perch, speckled bass, white perch, pole crappie, and papermouth. Many of the most famous paper mouth lakes such as Barkley Lake, Kentucky Lake, and Santee-Cooper are flatland reservoirs. These bodies of water all have shallow basins that extend from the main river channel and they slowly move through farmland and low hills. These lakes also include arms that are former tributary creeks, that are fed only in the spring.

Flatland reservoirs are crappie hotspots because they are fertile, offer abundant vegetation which can cover 50% surface area. You will want to go crappie fishing on the edge of weeds, along flooded timber areas, brushy banks, and stumps.

In murky flatland reservoirs you can catch crappie in the brush and stump areas using crappie fishing jigs with plastic grubs, and plastic tubes tipped with wax worms. Some of the most popular crappie jigs plastics include Northland’s gum drop tube, Turner Jones micro jelly jig, Bailey’s crappie magnet, Turner Jones micromini jig, Southern Pro umbrella tube, Mizmo mini tube, Mizmo earth-tone tube (Mini Thunder Rattle) Berkley power micro tube, and Turner Jones micro shrimp. You can also use crappie live baits such as crappie minnows, flathead minnows, shiners, shad, leeches, earthworms, chubs, crayfish, herring, and alewives. You will also find calico bass in the old river channel. You will want to fish the ledges where the edge of the channel is located. You may have some good luck with crappie jigs such as Northland’s gum drop tube, Turner Jones micro jelly jig, Bailey’s crappie magnet, Turner Jones micromini jig, Southern Pro umbrella tube, Mizmo mini tube, Mizmo earth-tone tube (Mini Thunder Rattle) Berkley power micro tube, and Turner Jones micro shrimp tipprd with live baits here. You could also use crappie crank baits trolled along the edge of the ledge where the drop off is located. Some old reliable crappie lure baits that have proven the test of time are Rapala, Blue Fox, Bill Lewis (Rat-L-Trap), Storm, Rebel, and Lindy – Little Joe.

The crappie food base in flatland reservoirs is exceptionally abundant and all these areas hold large populations of pole crappie. Flatland reserevoirs will many times have a good population of trophy crappie because of the abundence of crappie food. Well that concludes our article about flatland reservoirs.

Well that concludes my article about Trophy Crappie. Have a great day and the the best of luck to you on your next fishing trip
